The LiftMaster garage door opener model 3840 is a screw drive garage door opener with a powerful 3/4 HPS DC motor and Ever Charge standby power system. ThisDISCONTINUED MODEL was removed from Liftmaster’s line when newer models were added.
Oddly, neither of the newest models uses screw drive technology. The Liftmaster 8550 is a top-of-the-lin belt drive opener with battery backup and all the bells and whistles. The Liftmaster 8360 is tops in the chain drive category. Both use Liftmaster MyQ technology, which will likely be included on most new models.
According to LiftMaster, the model 3840 is (was) the only screw drive opener on the market with fully-integrated battery backup technology. The EverCharge® Standby Power System will open and close your garage door 20 times in 24 hours with no power, and will automatically recharge when the power comes back on. All safety and security features remain operational while the EverCharge® system is operational.
The LiftMaster model 3840 is the newest addition to LiftMaster’s top of the line Elite Series, and is part of the professionally installed line from Chamberlain. Premium features of this model are similar to the LiftMaster model 3850, but with a screw drive instead of belt drive system.

This Elite Series model includes the Smart Control Panel® with motion detecting light, time, system status messages and inside garage temperature as well as 3-Button Premium Remote Controls. The model 3840 also includes auto-force technology that monitors the garage door system continuously to ensure the lifting force adjusts with changes in temperature, door track movement or floor height.
