From the Manufacturer:

This MyQ Smartphone Controlled garage door opener with built-in Wi-Fi gives you complete peace of mind by allowing you to monitor and control your garage door from anywhere. With Wi-Fi built-in, this opener connects directly to your home’s Wi-Fi network to provide smartphone control.

From Garage How To:

If the baby is sleeping above your garage, go ahead, open the door. This very quiet Chamberlain WD1000WF belt-drive garage door opener operates with a whisper, but handles the heaviest garage doors.

In a nutshell, this top-of-the-line garage door opener uses your home wireless network to communicate with your smartphone. You can monitor and control the opener while at home and when you are away.

Let’s say you are half way to work and think you left the garage door open. Pull over (yes, pull over), check your phone to see if your door is really  open, and then close it using your phone. Why didn’t we have these when I was a kid?

Power outages are no problem. If the power goes out, the battery backup will continue opening and closing your door. NOTE: To conserve power, the light will not work, and since your wireless network will be out, smartphone operation will not work. It’s basic operation, but it still opens and closes your garage door.

Bottom Line: The Chamberlain WD1000WF is one of the best selling openers on the market. It’s quiet, powerful, tech savvy, and affordable. Buy one at Amazon for the best deal. If you want more technical info, click the Tech Specs tab.

The rating for this model was determined after considering feedback from over 230 actual consumer reviews on Amazon.com, HomeDepot.com and Chamberlain.com. Here are a few comments:

“Love getting emails when the kids leave the door open.”

“I especially like the MyQ feature, the battery backup and the motion sensing light control.”

“The HomeLink garage door opener that is built into most cars won’t work with this opener unless you have a very new car.”

If I leave the garage door open, will it automatically close?

You can program the Timer-to-Close setting on your wall control to automatically close your garage door in 1, 5 or 10 minutes, or you can set a custom time up to 99 minutes.

Is there a vacation lock to disable garage door remotes?

Yep. You can set your door control (the one mounted on the wall inside your garage) to “Lock.” This will disable remote access, but still allow you to use the door control from inside your garage.

How does the battery backup work?

If you have a power outage, the backup battery will operate your garage door opener for 1 to 2 days. NOTE: The light on the opener will not work and MyQ® functions, like Timer-to-Close and smartphone operation, will not work.

Do I need a separate Wi-Fi gateway?

Nope. The latest generation of Chamberlain’s MyQ garage door openers have built-in Wi-Fi. You just download the app to your smartphone, program it, and you’re good to go.

Will the WD1000WF work with an 8 foot or 10 foot tall garage door?

For sure. At Garage How To, our pet peeve is garage doors that will not accommodate taller trucks or SUVs with roof racks or pods. A 7 foot tall door is “standard,” but 8 feet or even 10 feet tall works much better (end of rant). The WD1000WF comes equipped for a 7 foot tall garage door, but you can purchase an 8 foot belt drive extension kit or a 10 foot extension kit for taller doors.

Is there a fee for using the MyQ service?

No. The best things in life are (usually) free. This is one of them. After you  buy the opener, that is :-).

Will MyQ® tell me when my garage door is open?

It’s not like a guard dog, but close. If your garage door is open, the MyQ® app on your phone will show you it’s open and allow you to close it. And, if your garage door is closed and someone opens it, MyQ® will notify. Cool, right?

Will HomeLink® work with my car?

It will work with most newer cars equipped with HomeLink®. However, some will require the addition of a HomeLink® Compatibility Bridge™. Go to bridge.chamberlain.com to see if you need it.

How strong is the belt?

It’s reinforced with steel. Very strong.
