Shed of the Dead

"With so many 'also ran' shed doors to ignore on modern shed
designs, this one screams of medieval style"

Shed of the DeadShed of the Dead seemed like an appropriate title for this stylish old wooden storage shed. The interesting juxtaposition of a lively old shed with a cemetary is cool but not clammy.

So, what's so interesting about this shed design? For starters, there is a very interesting mixture of finish details. The main structure is covered with lap siding, the gable end is finished with ship lap and the bargeboard (or vargeboard or vergeboard, depending on who you ask) is an exagerated scallop design with a gothic flavor.

With so many "also ran" shed doors to ignore on modern shed designs, this one screams of medieval style, although there probably isn't much screaming around this place. When you build your own shed and you are shopping for shed door hardware, try something unique like a long door hinge and an interesting latch.

One more thing. Although I can't be certain, the roof on this little beauty appears as if it might be slate. Using something so heavy as slate or concrete tile on your own wooden storage shed would require a roof engineered for higher roof loads and a much larger budget. Don't try loading a standard 2 X 4 shed roof with heavy material or you may end up buried next to this shed of the dead.

If you have decorated your own shed or you have one or more pictures of sheds that have been decorated, please send me a picture and a little story so I can share it with the world. If you are planning to build your own shed, please send me a picture when you're done.

If you happen to be an author, you can write to thank me for this inspiring new book idea. "Shed of the Dead: Rotting Bones and Dancing Gnomes." Stephen King, are you reading this? (Yes dear, I know that was really lame.)
