Many homeowners prefer a natural gas garage heater for their convenience. They can simply be hooked up to your natural gas line and use the same fuel as your home furnace and water heater. Vented and vent-free models are available. Gas garage heaters are efficient, powerful and do not take up much space in your garage, leaving you with more floor space. This is especially useful if you use your garage as a workshop, entertainment area, craft or workout room, etc.
There are two basic types of natural gas heater. Convection heaters circulate air around heating elements within the heating appliance and out into the space being heated. This type of garage heater requires electricity to move the air.
Infrared garage heaters also use natural gas, but they do not require electricity. They use electromagnetic radiation to emit heat from the surface of the heating appliance and warm nearby objects. Basically, hot air expands to heat the area around the heater.
Both types of natural gas garage heater work well to heat garages, workshops, barns, etc. Depending on their size, a single gas heater can quickly and efficiently heat a 2 car or a 3 car garage. Most models come equipped with a thermostat control, mounting brackets and numerous safety features.

Cons:
If you want to consider other garage heaters, there are two primary options: Propane garage heaters (LP heaters) and electric garage heaters. Electric heaters are the easiest to install, they are very convenient and can be portable. The down side to electric heaters is their generally higher operating cost.
In many cases, propane garage heaters, unlike electric heaters, require ventilation. Their operating cost is quite low and they are available in portable and permanently installed models.
