“If you buy a new garage door opener for no other reason than to get the latest safety
and security features, you may not need another reason.”
The latest garage door opener app offers remote garage door monitoring, opening and closing. All you need is a smart phone or computer connected to the internet.
From farting apps to weight loss apps and Angry Birds, you can find smart phone apps to do almost anything. What’s the benefit? Here are three really good ones:
Let’s say you are having some work done on your house while you are away. You can simply open and/or close the garage door when the contractor arrives, regardless of where you are in the world. As long as you have an internet connection, the right garage door opener and matching garage door opener app, you are in business.
Need another example? Imagine you are out of town visiting relatives on Easter and your neighbor needs to borrow your Easter Bunny suit . . . just one more time. If the hide-a-key went missing long ago, reach for your iPhone® or Android™ powered phone and the Easter bunny lives on for one more year.

2. Garage Door Security, Read: Peace of Mind
“Honey, did you close the garage door? No, I thought you did? Johnny, did YOU close the garage door?”
No need to turn around and drive home to check. If you are driving, pull over and stop (please). Or, hand your smart phone to whoever is not driving. Use the garage door opener app to answer your question in a jiffy.
Still open? No problem. Just use the app to close the door. If you have the same thought while on a cruise ship in the Caribbean, as long as you have internet access you are still in business.
3. It’s really cool and you can impress your friends

Who has the garage door opener app?
As of this writing, there aren’t many options. But that is sure to change soon. If you own the latest Chamberlain / Liftmaster models with MyQ® technology, you just need to buy the optional garage door opener internet gateway and download the iPhone® or Android™ app to your smart phone.
NOTE: Liftmaster is Chamberlain’s dealer-installed line and the only brand currently offering the optional internet gateway. The Chamberlain brand does offer one MyQ® equipped model, the Chamberlain WD962KEV, but it does not yet offer the internet gateway option.
MyQ® options for this model include an in-home garage door monitor and a variety of home automation accessories to turn lights on and off from your car. It won’t be long before you see the internet gateway for Chamberlain branded models, too. Stay tuned!
The garage door opener app will almost magically open and close your garage door and will also tell you if the door is in the open or closed position. If you own a Craftsman garage door opener with Craftsman AssureLink technology, the same applies (Craftsman is made by Chamberlain).
While not many Chamberlain / Liftmaster or Craftsman garage door opener models are equipped with MyQ® and AssureLink™, here are 4 that are:
Craftsman AssureLink™ Garage Door Openers
Craftsman garage door openers are also made by The Chamberlain Group. There are currently two AssureLink™ equipped models:
- Craftsman 3043 Belt Drive, DC garage door opener with battery backup(nice!)
- Craftsman 30437 Chain Drive, DC garage door opener
NOTE: With its initial introduction, Craftsman is including one year of AssureLink™ monitoring and remote garage door control free of charge. After the first year, there is an annual cost of $19.95
Liftmaster MyQ® Garage Door Openers
Even though The Chamberlain Group makes Liftmaster as well as Chamberlain, there are currenly only 2 Liftmaster models being marketed with the internet gateway and the garage door opener app. Liftmaster is the professionally installed line from Chamberlain.
- Liftmaster 8550 Belt Drive, DC garage door opener with battery backup (Elite Series)
- Liftmaster 8360 Chain Drive, DC garage door opener with battery backup (Premium Series)
