Electric Garage Heaters: Uses, Pros, Cons and Alternativess

Electric heaters are a popular choice for homeowners looking for a quick, clean, effective heating solution. If you use your garage as a workshop, or as an entertainment and recreational room, a proper garage heater will make this flexible space more usable and comfortable.

Why Choose an Electric Garage Heater?

An electric heater is very convenient, allowing you to place it nearly anywhere in your garage or workshop. They can be portable, wall or ceiling mounted and they do not require you to install special ventilation. Electric heaters are quite cost effective, too.

Points to Note When Purchasing a Garage Heater

Make sure the heater is properly sized for your garage or workshop. This will keep you from overheating the space and from over burdening your electricity bill. Ask yourself if a portable electric heater is more suitable for you than a model permanently installed on the wall or ceiling. If you go with a permanent installation, install it in the coldest corner of your garage for maximum efficiency.

In addition, be sure the heater comes with a thermostatic temperature control to manage your garage or workshop climate. For heaters without a thermostat feature, one can often be purchasee separately.

Safety Features

With no odors or dangerous emissions, electric heaters are a clean and safe choice. Most models include a feature that automatically shut off the heater if it overheats or is accidentally overturned. This really is a must.

Safety features of electric heaters make them very desirable for use in a garage or workshop. Unlike a propane garage heater, electric heaters never run out of fuel. They also do not require special ventilation, making installation much easier.

Alternative Garage Heater Options

In addition to electric garage heaters, other heating solutions include natural gas garage heaters and propane garage heaters. Keep in mind that these options will require ventilation.

They are great options, depending on the availability of fuel and your decision to use a permanent or portable model. Natural gas garage heaters, in particular, are not portable and must be installed permanently.
